Meet the LittleOak family: Amber on feeding, support and finding your own rhythm

At LittleOak, we’re a team of parents who are passionate about showing families that there are significantly better ways to nourish their children. Today, we’re delighted to introduce you to another member of our little team...and this time, it’s someone you might already have met.

Amber is LittleOak’s amazing Consumer Service Manager and mum to Bodhi, who is now four and a half years old. Leading our CareTeam, Amber is passionate about supporting families, managing all the inquiries that come through and making your feeding journey as smooth as possible.

Having faced her own challenges with feeding, she’s passionate about helping where she can and making sure that each and every parent and caregiver feels confident and comfortable in the ways they choose to nourish their children.

“I had a really hard feeding journey. It was during the Covid lockdowns, and I had no one to talk to. I never want anyone to feel like that,” she said.

We sat down with Amber to learn a little more about her journey and any words of wisdom she has to share with all of you.

What’s your favourite thing about working at LittleOak?

“I love talking to our parents. Everyone has a feeding story and it's a privilege for people to open up to us and share a little bit about whats going on in their lives. If we can make things easier for them—whether their baby can't sleep because of their old formula, has skin irritations, or something else—it's incredibly rewarding. There are so many instances when we get to connect with parents in a few months' time and see how LittleOak has helped their baby’s health and happiness. It’s really rewarding.

But working on our CareTeam, also means hearing some heartbreaking stories. After all, no two feeding journeys are the same.

“I was talking to a mum who was crying because she couldn’t breastfeed. I told her she was a good mum for trying so hard and she burst into tears. No one had told her that. I think it’s important that mums know it's okay to use formula. There’s so much stigma and sometimes they can be really hard on themselves but it's great to know that, with LittleOak, they are using the second-best thing.”

Can you share a bit about your background and how it may influence or inspire your work at LittleOak?

"I’m actually a trained fitness instructor. I worked as a personal trainer and in sports nutrition before joining LittleOak. Then, Covid hit, and I shut down my business. I was pregnant with my little one, Bodhi, and started using LittleOak. It’s so great to work with a product that I personally used because I get to connect with parents without feeling like a salesperson. LittleOak really helped me with supplement feeding and I love that I can help more parents in my day-to-day.”

If you could convey one message to the families who choose LittleOak, what would it be?

“I think this might be one of the biggest lessons I learned. When you’re a new parent, there’s just so much information around and it can be incredibly overwhelming. Everyone tells you about sleeping schedules and awake windows and all these rigid schedules to stick to. I think this can make things unnecessarily stressful, and I’d really encourage our families to do what works best for them. There’s no one-size-fits-all for feeling, sleeping, or awake windows and every baby is different. Find the rhythm that works and go with that.
