Why is LittleOak different from other goat milk formulas?

Why is LittleOak different from other goat milk formulas?

While we know breastfeeding is best, we also know that it's not always an option for every family. That’s why we’re committed to crafting the most wholesome, nutritious baby formulas and toddler milks, as close to nature as possible. So, if you’re a new parent and you’re interested in goat milk formulas, how do you know which one to pick? What are the differences? How does LittleOak stand out?

Let’s talk goat milk

When it comes to feeding little ones, goat milk is growing in popularity – and rightly so. Lower in lactose, it also contains the A2 protein, which is more gentle on little tummies. The high volume of prebiotic oligosaccharides (naturally occurring carbohydrates that feed the good bacteria in the gut) also help to support good gut health.

We don’t skimp on the good stuff

In contrast to cow milk based formulas, goat milk formulas are more similar to human breastmilk. In fact, those aforementioned oligosaccahrides are the 3rd largest ingredient in human milk. Many goat milk formulas on the market, however, use skim milk. And why is this an issue? Infants need enough healthy fats for growth and development, and when goat formula brands use skim milk powder, they contain no natural milk fats at all. When you skimp on it in one area (get it?), you’ll need to supplement these fats with additives. For us, this is a big no no.

At LittleOak, we only use fresh whole goat milk to make our formulas. This means that 45% of a LittleOak formula is natural milk fats. Whole milk means a whole lot of goodness for your little one. After all, when you have an ingredient as beautiful as fresh whole goat milk, the less you do to it the better.

The “cold-pressed juice” of formula

The more you heat something, the more nutrients and vitamins are lost. Many brands on the market follow a common process of heat-treating milk several times to make formula. They first heat the milk to create powder, turn it back into liquid by adding water and oils, then heat it again to create base formula. While it's cheaper to produce, all this processing strips the formula of its nutrients, leaving these brands to add numerous synthetic ingredients to replace this loss. At LittleOak, we don’t cut corners, and we don’t cut costs.

We start with fresh whole goat milk and heat it only once, thereby protecting the natural nutrients. Additives? We don’t need them. This minimal processing approach means we use up to 25% less synthetically derived ingredients than other brands. It’s a win-win. All the goodness, delivered naturally.

At LittleOak, we support every parent’s feeding journey. After all, everyone’s experience is different and what works for one person, might not work for you. We’re incredibly passionate about what we do and want to always ensure that parents have the resources they need to make informed decisions about how they wish to nourish their children.
